Ramkumar is an ace Mridangam artist with a history of more than 2 decades. After his professional stint as an Electronics & Communication Engineer in the USA, he returned to India to further his obsession with music.
He is experienced in playing Mridangam for Sandham based Songs like Thiruppugazh by Saint Arunagirinathar and is also adept in Aadhi, Roopakam, Misra Chapu, and Kanda Chapu with different nadais (thisram, chathusram, etc). He also has the fine ability to formulate Korvais & Arudhis, based on the Thaalam and Krithi. Among his many credits, the Corporate Theme Music – The TAFE Anthem – he composed for TAFE Ltd, received wide acclaim. He is also credited with creating and launching the official website of Legendary Film Composer Shri M. S. Viswanathan – www.msvtimes.com. He is a regular Mridangam performer in All India Radio [AIR] and December Margazhi Season.
Ramkumar is also passionate about teaching the art of Mridangam from basic to advanced levels to those equally passionate about learning. As a patient Guru who takes time and effort to explain the intricacies and nuances of the lesson imparted, till the student grasps it thoroughly, he is much sought after as a teacher.
