Anupam started playing violin at a tender age and completed Grade 8 (with distinction) and the Diploma of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London, while studying for his bachelor’s degree in Kolkata, India. He completed a second undergraduate degree in Music from The Queen’s College, University of Oxford, UK, and went on to study for an MPhil in Historical Musicology at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Anupam started teaching at the KM Music Conservatory, Chennai (KMMC), a brainchild of renowned film music composer and director Dr. A. R. Rahman, in 2015. Here, in addition to his teaching responsibilities, Anupam has conducted and directed the Sunshine Orchestra, resident chamber orchestra at the KMMC, in many of Dr. Rahman’s projects, in studios and in live concerts in India and abroad.
Currently at the KMMC, Anupam is the Programme Leader for the first of the 2 years of the full-time Diploma course, accredited by the Middlesex University, London. His responsibilities include teaching violin, viola, music history, theory and analysis, and conducting/directing his own KM Chamber Ensemble, comprising students across the various full- and part-time courses.
